The purpose of ISO 27031 is to help organisations ensure that their business continuity plans are able to deal with any type of disaster. This standard introduces new definitions and provides definitions for concepts that are new in ISO 27031-1. In addition, other ISO 27031 models are aligned to ISO 27031-1, and the requirements sections of ISO 27031 are specifically aligned to those of ISO 27031-1. New requirements have been added to ISO 27031-1 to enhance business continuity planning and to ensure sound implementation of that planning.
ISO 27031 is used as a supplement to ISO 22301 and is not a replacement for it. Nonetheless, a Sufficient Cloud Baseline should be defined. Since ISO 27031 doesn't define required processes and procedures, it focuses on using relevant technologies.
What does a Standards organization do? The standard itself does not provide any specific implementation guidance, it is simply a description of the elements of a service continuity plan so that organizations can use the document in their own ways, to suit their own organizations.
The standard has been developed through a public invitation process in which organizations can make their comment and suggestions. Once this is done, the IEC will take into consideration these comments before finalizing the standard. d2c66b5586
