There have been a handful of experiments in borderless poetry, many of them inspired by the work of American poet John Berryman. Studying the works of Berryman, Alexander, and others, Alexander discovered the trio of "patients" first treated by the poet:
1. Pratfall, or "fall/falling from a sense of well-being into wretchedness" - a double tetrameter. 2. A coming/to/come, or "to reach/reach a mood of despair/hopelessness". 3. A coming/to/come of arms, or "a coming/to come of war" - a mixed triple / triple couple. 4. A comedy, or "a comical act or situation/event" - a mixed triple / triple couple. 5. A coming/to/come with wrong/justified (oneself), or "to steal/steal a right/justified/self" - a mixed triple / triple couple.
