In chapter thirty-two, David finds out that the soldiers took John and Ann to him and tells the soldiers to kill them. The soldiers tell David that they are not allowed to do that and that he is the one who should be killed. David kills the soldiers and then decides to stop the ship. The ship has got to the ocean and is sailing away.
In chapter twenty-nine we learn that David has gotten all of the soldiers that were chasing him in the swamp and now he has a big army in front of him. John and Ann Laydon are at Point Comfort with Virginia and Samuel. They went on a tour of the swamp trying to find some way to get out of the swamp and a way to get to Point Comfort and to warn David.
In chapter thirty-one John and Ann Laydon have found a way out and have decided to warn David. They were on their way to warn him when they were stopped by some soldiers. The soldiers told them that they are not allowed to tell anyone anything and that they are to be taken to David. The soldiers take John and Ann to David who was on the ship which was sailing away from the army.
In chapter thirty-three John and Ann Laydon are at sea in a boat and David is at the bow of the ship. David tells them that they have found a way out and they can talk to the ship people. They talked to David and the people on the ship told them about the boy the goatherd that David killed. The goatherd was the one that told the soldiers to kidnap John and Ann. David tells them that the boy that he killed is the same boy that John and Ann were with and that the boy was also named Zu. He also says that the goatherd and Zu are one and the same. So David tells John and Ann to go with the ship people. When John and Ann get on the boat the boat starts sinking. They all try to get on the boat but it is too late. The boat sinks and they find themselves in the ocean near Point Comfort.
In the next chapter it starts off with Gautier on his boat looking out for Zlie on a beach. He looks out and sees Zlie, and she is with a kid. He sees her for a second and is about to yell for a rescue. But then Zlie yells for him to go because a soldier is right behind her. When the next chapter starts, Gautier is on a boat. He sees Zlie and Inan and is now worried that he will get captured. He is in the middle of a battle and is trying to take out the soldiers who are trying to stop him. He takes out the soldiers and is now worried that he will get captured. Then, he saw Inan and Zlie. He asks them what the heck is going on. They tell him that they were being taken away. Gautier and the other soldiers decide to go to Zlie and Inan because it is their only chance to get a boat and escape. So they go to her and Inan and ask them where their boat is and if they are safe. Inan tells them that they have a boat and they are safe.
