Self-cleaning is recommended and recommended practice in all GE ovens. This does not imply that the ovens will be self-cleaning when purchased or that they will never need cleaning. The use of self-cleaning is recommended in three ways:
(a) To remove accumulated soils, spills, or other food contaminants that accumulate on oven surfaces
(b) To prevent food soils from reattaching to oven surfaces during normal cooking
(c) To remove food soils and spills that are not cleaned during normal cooking. It is recommended that a consumer clean the oven at least once a year.
If you do not know when you will clean the oven, we recommend you use self-cleaning at least once a year. The cleaning process itself will clean the oven, but it will not remove cooking soils or spills that are not removed with normal cleaning.
If you're cleaning a range that has been used to cook for a long time, it's suggested you clean it more frequently. GE Appliances recommends cleaning your oven at least twice a year to remove food soils and spills. All ranges should be cleaned at least once a year, if not more frequently.
