osmosis jones is a marvelous, breakthrough animated film from the story-telling minds of Barry Sonenberg and Eric Goldberg. osmosis jones rips through the known rules of cartoon animation, walking a fine line between funny and scary. First off, the story is truly horrific, and was written by Eric Goldberg, who also wrote the screenplay. In this film, we follow Osmosis Jones, and his quest to save his home, the world from the mysterious villainous Dark Island. It has all the spectacular visuals you expect from a Chris Nolan movie, like mind-blowing earthquakes, beautiful explosions, contrasting vibrant colors, and fast paced action sequences shot by award-winning director, David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). However, the film, which was shot using the innovative screen-capture software, Cintiq, and digital puppets that were created by Barry Sonenberg also has one of the smartest, and funniest visual gags in recent film history. The film also features a fantastically talented cast, including Bill Murray, Chris Rock, Jim Parsons, and Liane Carroll (who plays Osmosis's chief scientist), to name a few. On top of all that, Chris Rock's facial expressions and Bill Murray's serious eyebrows (I've never seen them on anyone before) really add an extra layer of humor to an otherwise serious plot. In my opinion, this is the funniest film in recent years, redefining the comic productions of Academy Award-winning directors like Steven Spielberg and Charlie Chaplin, as well as the mind-blowing visual comedy matches of directors such as Tim Burton and Tim and Eric.
